Lighting your Home Better

During the darker months of the year you need to pay special attention to how much light you get in your life. This starts in the home. As the days get longer and the weather gets warmer there is really no excuse. But how do we keep our spirits and homes bright during the fall and winter?
The answer is surprisingly simple. You need to replace your old incandescent bulbs with better lighting options like compact fluorescent bulbs. These are most commonly called CFL bulbs.
Of course, first you need to make sure that there are plenty of lights in a room to put these new lights into. Get floor lamps to put near your couches. I live in an apartment with almost no lights in the walls or ceiling so I had to buy all of my own lighting and it adds up quickly. I have three cheap floor lamps just in the living room. Before I changed over my bulbs, I needed this many lamps just to light this one room.
Once I got myself a high lumen CFL bulb that all changed. The bulb I got was one that replicates daylight and produces the same lumens as a 300 watt incandescent bulb. It’s amazing how much light this one CFL puts out and how clean the light feels. The great thing about standard CFLs is that they fit into a normal fixture so I didn’t have to get rid of or replace any of my modern floor lamps.
Now that I know how great they are I will be getting more. They are a little more expensive than other bulbs but they produce more and better light per watt of power used and they have much longer lives. I don’t see any reason to ever go back to incandescent bulbs and I don’t ever plan to.
